Woodsboro, California

Woodsboro is a fictional small town in the Scream series located in California, United States. It has at least three known street names, Turner Lane, Whispering Lane and Elm Street.

Northern California (original film), Michigan (fourth film), and North Carolina (fifth film) were used as location spots to depict the fictional town.

Places in Woodsboro[]

Woodsboro High School - this is where various students and most of the victims of the three Woodsboro massacres have attended.
- The first massacre had two teenage survivors, Sidney Prescott and Randy Meeks.
- The second massacre had only a sole survivor, Kirby Reed.
  - By 2011, there is a memorial stand where a status of Principal Himbry stands in the hallway very close to Jill's locker.
- The third massacre had three survivors, Tara Carpenter and the Meeks-Martin twins, Chad and Mindy.
Woodsboro Police Department - This is where Sheriff Burke, Sheriff Dewey Riley, Sheriff Judy Hicks, Deputy Anthony Perkins, and Deputy Ross Hoss worked. In the original, Gale Weathers and her cameraman, Kenny Brown, visit here after Sidney was brought here accompanied by Dewey and Tatum after her attack.
Woodsboro Hospital - Seen in Scream 4 and Scream (2022). There are numerous scenes here. After Olivia Morris' death, Jill Roberts and Sidney are taken here for their injuries. Rebecca Walters is fired by Sidney for her insensitive attitude towards the reality of her life and killed in the hospital parking structure later. In the finale where Gale, Dewey, Gale and Judy fight off Jill and defeat her. Tara is attacked in the sequel, and Dewey dies in the same hospital.
Woodsboro Town Square - This is where the fountain is found and located not too far from Woodsboro High School as seen in Scream and in a deleted scene in Scream 4.
Fort Dillon Road - An abandoned farm house where the third annual Stab-A-Thon was hosted during Scream 4 by Charlie Walker and Robbie Mercer. Gale Riley was attacked and stabbed in the shoulder. As Dewey intervened Ghostface, the teenagers left in panic while some stayed behind and witnessed Gale survive and injured, and Dewey was unable to catch Ghostface, but saved Gale.
34 Elm Street, the former Prescott Residence - Sidney lived there with her parents. After 1995, just with her father, Neil Prescott and after her mother Maureen Prescott was killed, in her room, it's starting to storm and she checks the window to Billy Loomis scaring her. She lets him in, but her father checks on her her due to Billy scaring her. Sidney waits for Tatum, and then called by Billy and attacked by Stu Macher in the Ghostface costume. She is later staying with Tatum and Dewey at their house until her father returns from his business trip.
The 1996 Riley Residence - Mrs. Riley, Dewey and Tatum reside there. After Sidney is attacked in 1996, she stays with them until her father returns from his business trip. They have a second bed set up for when Sidney comes over. It is unknown if Dewey took over the house or got his own during 2011 with Gale.
261 Turner Lane - the former Macher family residence, later the Freeman family residence. In 1996, Stu has a party, but the curfew ends it as well as the discovery of Principal Arthur Himbry at Woodsboro High School which the remaining drunk teenaged guys leave the party to check it out. The first massacre ends with Tatum and Kenny dead, and Sidney, Dewey, Neil and Gale surviving. The Macher family has since moved out. Before 2022, it becomes Amber Freeman's home and she becomes obsessed with the history of the house and plans a murdering spree. She has a party just like Stu, but formally ends it to continue the rest of her murder spree with Richie Kirsch. The third massacre end with Liv McKenzie dead, however Chad, Mindy, Sidney, Gale, Sam and Tara survive.
Roberts Residence (2011) - Jill and her mother, Kate Roberts reside here. Sidney is invited to stay with them on her book tour. Sidney looks around and sees the pictures of her mom and shows them to Rebecca and she converses with Jill and her aunt, Kate in a deleted scene of Scream 4. Later, Kate is killed at her own residence by Charlie Walker in the Ghostface costume. As Judy comes and investigates Kate's murder, Sidney leaves the scene of the crime to go search for Jill.
Morris Residence - Olivia resides with her mother and they live next door to Jill. Her and Jill would often chat across the way as they can see each other through their bedroom windows. She is home alone while her mother is at her boyfriend's house and she is killed by Charlie in the Ghostface costume in her bedroom as Kirby and Jill watch in horror. Sidney breaks in an attempt to save her, only to find her brutally mutilated and then attacked by Ghostface himself which she fends off well before the cops get there. Trevor Sheldon and Kirby come and take Jill over to the ambulances as the cops search and investigate the Morris Residence. Another night, Jill and Kirby talk on the phone and Jill says Olivia's window to her room is all boarded up as she views from her room.
Kirby's House - 329 Whispering Lane. Her parents were gone and she decided to go to Jill's house with Chinese food so she wouldn't be alone due to the murders of their fellow classmates, Jenny and Marnie. In 2011, the second half of the second massacre and the faux-showdown erupts here leaving Robbie and Trevor dead and Kirby and Sidney mortally injured.
Carpenter Residence - Christina and her daughter, Tara reside there. Sam resided there until her 18th birthday and left town. While their mother was out of town during 2022, Tara was attacked by Ghostface and survived with multiple injures. The police come in time before they could kill her.
Martha Meeks's House - Martha resides with her teenage kids, Mindy and Chad. They have a shrine of their uncle, Randy Meeks. This is where they discuss the attack and Mindy appears to be like her uncle discovering that everything that's occurring is a requel.
Hicks Residence - Sheriff Judy Hicks resides with her teenaged son, Wes Hicks, in a two story house. Judy is ordering sushi and hears strange noises and searches the front with a knife. After she finds her son, she assumed it was him who left the door open. She leaves to pick up the order and Wes showers. She attempts to race back to the house only to be stabbed to death by Ghostface. Later, Wes is stalked in the house and then he finds the front door open and closes it and then gets stabbed in the neck by Ghostface and is killed. The police and newscast tape the house off and bagged their bodies and remove them from the residence.
Video store - This is where Randy and Karen Kolchak worked. Tatum was going to the video store to get a movie featuring Tom Cruise during 1996. Another day in 1996, this is where Billy and Stu antagonized Randy while he worked.

Inspired by the "Texarkana" region between Arkansas and Texas in the Spring of 1946 where the Texarkana Moonlight Murders occurred, despite its California location.
The 707 area code is for Sonoma County, where the original movie was filmed.
The original script had Woodsboro in North Carolina,, Kevin Williamson's home state.
Other geographical references: The beer shown during the party scenes is Racer 5, made by Bear Republic brewing company, which is based in Sonoma County, while an Oakland A's baseball cap and a Grand Lake theater picture (also in Oakland) are displayed in Judy Hicks' house.
As seen in the script, Woodsboro was originally supposed to be called Bayboro
