Season 3 (titled Scream: Resurrection) of Scream was confirmed by MTV on October 14, 2016. The season premiered on VH1 on July 8, 2019 and the finale aired on July 10, 2019, airing for 6 episodes which aired two per episodes each night, for its 3 night event, making it the shortest season of the TV series to date.

The season stars RJ Cyler, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Jessica Sula, Tyga, C.J Wallace, and Giorgia Whigham in main/major roles with Mary J. Blige, Gideon Emery, Giullian Yao Gioiello, Terrence J, Drew Starkey, and Tony Todd in supporting/recurring roles, and Big Boi in a guest star role. Roger L. Jackson also reprises his role as The Voice, making him thus far, the only cast member to be affiliated in both the films and TV series, of the overall franchise (excluding the first two seasons).

This is the first season to not air on MTV (instead airing on VH1; both are owned by Paramount Global which distributed the new fifth and sixth films). The season also replaces both the cast and crew of the previous two seasons, with Brett Matthews being the showrunner, replacing Michael Gans and Richard Register from the second season (who had previously replaced Jill E. Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia as the first season showrunners), thus breaking and discontinuing the storyline, setting and characters from the previous seasons, establishing the series as an anthology; as well as with the series also changing executive producers and production companies, with Queen Latifah being an executive producer via her production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment. The late director of the original four films and who established the franchise, Wes Craven, is given a posthumous credit as an executive producer of this season.

This is also the first and only season in the entirety of the TV series to bring Ghostface back into the franchise (since the original first four films), 8 years since 2011's Scream 4 (due to the replacement and different storyline of the Lakewood Slasher for the first two seasons), albeit is considered a separate entity than the one depicted in the films, regardless of universe.

Plot

Synopsis

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Atlanta, Georgia, this season features a brand-new story and cast of characters who are destined to fall prey to the mysterious killer known as "Ghostface". The series centers on Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him and threaten his hard-earned plans for his future...and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.

The iconic Ghostface mask is seen as a silhouette on the moon; opening shoot is a loose reference to opening of the original film.

Summary

"Look, don't call back, okay?"

On Halloween 2010, a 17-year old Becky is shown home alone, making herself a smoothie by cutting an assortment of fruits and vegetables before she receives a phone call from an unknown number. She proceeds to answer and is asked if she's somebody else before Becky states they have the wrong number, before the killer proceeds to ask her for her name and if she's over 18. The caller claims they're calling from her service provider with a seasonal survey for their customers, to which Becky hesitates and claims she's busy. The caller then briefly switches to a sinister voice (whether or not Ghostface) to ask the infamous question of "What's your favorite scary movie?", which startles Becky who turns around after seeing a figure move past her kitchen window. Becky tells the caller to not call back and who hangs up and returns to cutting her produce.

What are you supposed to be?

The doorbell rings, which startles her again and leads to her accidentally cutting her thumb and who proceeds to suck on it and then answer the door, taking off her robe to reveal a Florence Nightingale costume. She opens the door to find a child dressed up in the iconic Father Death costume and asks him, unknowing, of who they're supposed to be. The child tilts their head as Becky tells him who she is based on her costume. The child stays silent as Becky then looks on and asks him if he's supposed to trick her. The child nods before raising his fake toy knife and "stabbing" her on her breast, which leads to her shirt unbuttoning, which amuses Becky and who laughingly brushes him off and tells him to be careful, seeing as she paid a lot for her "bad boys", who then grabs her bowl of Halloween candy and handing for him to grab some. The young boy then laughs and breaks his silence, and proceeds to grab a TWINS chocolate bar (parody of TWIX) and tell her "Trick or treat" before Becky scoffs and tells him "Happy Halloween, punk", before proceeding to head back inside and closing the door.

The boy, an 8 year old Marcus Elliot, runs cheerfully and laughing from the house with a white plastic bag of candy into an empty alleyway who calls for his twin brother, Deion, who is startled by seeing a figure moving in the dark, before he appears in front of him as Marcus's bully, Tommy Jenkins, wearing a clown mask, who takes it off after scaring him and insults Marcus's costume and tells him to give him his candy, before running away and taking it, with Marcus telling him to stop and gives chase, telling him to give it back. At some point, Tommy chucks the candy over a fence of a junkyard and taunts Marcus by telling him the rumor that's where Hook Man (real name Luther Thompson), who has a hook for a hand, thus his name, and chops kids up like them. Deion arrives, wearing football player gear, due to his passion for the sport, as opposed to Marcus's costume, paralleling the personalities between both brothers. He tells Marcus how they'll get his candy.

"No, I've got you"

Both twins enter the junkyard and search quietly and separately in order to find the bag. It's at this time that a drunken Hook Man leaves his shed and who Marcus hides from after spotting him first. He hides behind a car and just before Hook Man can find him, an unknowing Marcus calls out for his brother and that he found him, reassuring him that he's got him as Deion takes off his helmet and tries to warn his brother before Hook Man attacks him, pushing Marcus off the car hood he as on top off, the candy bag and its contents spilling as Marcus is taken aback and before he can react, Hook Man lodges his hook into the young boy's forehead while in the mask, who cries out in pain, and tells him sinisterly "No, I got you" before a traumatized Deion runs away and leaves his twin brother to die.

Now, eight years later, in College Park, Georgia (south-side bordering the city of Atlanta), a now 16-year old high school senior and star running back, Deion Elliot is shown jogging and listening to music in the early morning hours of Monday, October 29th, 2018 on the streets of his neighborhood heading to Weaver High School, who misses the school bus and who is challenged by one of the bus riders and fellow classmate, Amir Ayoub. He jogs and arrives moments before the bus does too, much to Amir's dismay. Deion then gets in line amongst other classmates to enter school via his best friend on the football team, Hawkins, as they converse about Deion's star power and how it's messing up his chances with the ladies. Beth, the local goth chick, who is seen smoking on the side leaning against the wall, chimes into the conversation by saying how VIP treatment must be nice for Deion, with Hawkins then flirting with Beth. Deion offers her to cut in line to head into school. Beth tells him how telling her to cut is a bad idea. Deion and Hawkins then head in as students line up to walk through a metal detector, which rings off on Deion, as the school security guard and inspects his backpack, with Deion surprised to find a TWINS bar inside, with a note attached that reads "Trick or Treat".

This causes Deion to become vigilant briefly before running towards his first homeroom class where his teacher, Mrs. Pell, is reading off the attendance list and who's late, who calls his name repeatedly and tells herself that's what happens when the school makes exceptions. Deion arrives as Mrs. Pell reminds him of the rules, as Deion uses his football player card as an excuse, and how his coach will kill him if he gets detention. Mrs. Pell excuses him and tells him to take a seat. His classmate, Olivia "Liv" Reynolds, is then called next in attendance, who is a new student at Weaver and is caught staring at Deion, which her teacher takes notice of and almost calls her out on, before Liv replies as Deion turns around and smiles at her. During a school lunch, bold activist and Deion's neighbor, Kym, is seen with a megaphone and calling for people to sign a petition to support the school's lunch subsidy, which she claims how the 45th U.S president (at the time) is trying to tear Black folks down and who states that the lunch was being striked down on, who's asking the student body to sign her petition. Deion tries to walk past her before Kym catches him, as Deion talks to her BFF and supporter, Manny, how Kym can be much sometimes to which he agrees but claims that's why he loves her. Kym also argues with Mrs. Pell as she tries to tell Kym that she's causing a "disturbance" and who denies that she'll be silenced, claiming it's her rights in the First Amendment and tells her if she hears her, repeating the question again by speaking into and putting the megaphone on her face.

Amir is shown editing and listening to music with his headphones on, on his Macbook, when Beth then approaches him and asks if the seat next to him on his empty lunch table is open to which he awkwardly says no and points out how none of them are, which deters Beth who says "shocker" before retreating. At the lunch table with the football team, Liv is seen talking with Hawkins and next to her is Weaver High's quarterback, 16 year old Avery Collins, who tries to convince and charm an unconvinced Liv to wear his jersey to the upcoming football game in the upcoming weekend, on Saturday, November 3rd. Liv retorts Avery's claim of it being tradition, claiming how it's too bad she's not traditional and that since they're not together, to not call her "babe". Just then, Deion passes by the lunch table and who Avery tries to let him convince to wear his jersey, claiming he's the best player on the team, which Hawkins chuckles and states who they have better than "D-Day" (Deion). Deion jokingly agrees and tells Liv that he should wear Avery's jersey and how it's the cleanest on the team, as Liv asks him why's that, as Marcus states how all Avery does is pass the rock to him, causing Hawkins to chuckle. Deion then tells Liv how it was officially nice to meet her, handing her an apple across and in front of Avery, before going to his locker, as Liv looks back to Avery who forces a smile.

Deion is about going through his locker in a semi-empty hallway before being startled by the feedback going off on Kym's megaphone, and who tells her jokingly how he thought they came to Weaver to get away from the sirens, as Kym tells him how she thought Weaver was supposed to be different and that she just got a detention from Mrs. Pell (for her actions earlier). Deion apologizes about that and asks Kym if she's alright, with Kym changing the subject and claims she's curious of who's going to wear his jersey to the game and how other girls at school interested in him are asking. Deion tells Kym to tell the other girls that it's not going and the only woman to wear his jersey is his mother, as Kym states how that's a mistake and he only made them want it more. Kym walks away leaving Deion alone at his locker when he finds another TWINS bar with a new note, which reads "Parking garage, after school". Deion then looks up and to the side suspiciously before heading over.

Out in Atlanta, at an abandoned warehouse during the day, a now teenager Tommy Jenkins, going by T.J, is seen driving a small gray car, who's now working for an Uber-like company called Thumbs Up. He texts his customer, "Marcus", that he's arrived and with the customer texting back how they're in a wheelchair and if he can help him. Reluctantly, Tommy exits his car and proceeds to ask a homeless man laying outside on a mattress of the door of the warehouse if he's seen Marcus, with the old man pointing a finger to the inside of the warehouse. Tommy begins to approach the inside, who immediately retreats as he hears his name "Tommy" being whispered. He heads back into his car and denies the customer service by texting them "Sorry, dude. Zero stars". He proceeds to then start the car and turn around before Ghostface (official debut), who was in the backseat, slits Tommy's throat and begins to suffocate him with the same candy bag Marcus had used his candy in eight yeas prior, as blood gushes out, with a struggling Tommy trying to react and thrash around, before officially succumbing and becoming the first victim in the Atlanta Murders.

After school, Deion heads to the almost half empty parking garage and calls for the anonymous stalker of the note to come out and how he doesn't have time for games. Before he knows it, a car starts going up on the upper level and who's taken aback by Ghostface standing on the upper floor watching him, who runs off once Deion gives chase. Deion approaches the car, only to find it to be Avery's and who the latter asks if he's messing with his ride as he approaches from the stairwell, much to Deion's suspicion of it being him and asks him if he's messing with him. Deion then sees Liv approach with Avery, walking behind, as things start getting tense once she arrives as Avery starts being discriminatory towards Deion, as Deion and Avery face off about Avery's allegations of Deion not caring about his team and how Deion sees him for who he is on the inside. Avery then calls out Deion as he walks away, before Liv then denounces Avery by throwing his jersey to the ground, much to his dismay and who grabs her by the elbow as Liv turns to walk away. Deion comes back and pushes Avery against the back of his car and then tells him angrily to try that on him, defending Liv. Just then, Mrs. Pell arrives as Avery lies about how Deion assaulted Avery for no reason, much to Deion and Liv's disbelief and who tries to defend him, before both are given detention by her, much to their displeasure.

In the now after-school detention at the library, a teacher, Mr. Fitch, is calling out attendance, with Kym, Manny, Amir, and Beth in attendance, with Amir stating to Fitch that he's there on a technicality, with Fitch claiming he doesn't care. As Deion and Liv enter, Fitch announces them by their cliques of jock and cheerleader and how "Now it's a real Breakfast Club" (meta reference to the 1985 film of the same name). Kym, who's been arguing with Fitch about her detention, as well as defending Manny when Fitch tells her to listen to her "gay BFF", asks what his reference is supposed to mean with Fitch telling her to google it and how she'll find it important and relevant to modern institutionalized teenage oppression, given she's an activist. Marcus tries to use his football card again to be let out, only for Fitch to look at Amir who tells him and Liv that he doesn't care. Fitch tells them he'll be off grading papers and if anyone has any questions to talk to "Gene Simmons", referring to Beth, and how she's done this more times than he, as she smiles at him as Fitch leaves the library. Marcus and Liv convene in an empty aisle in the library on the side by short bookshelves, with Liv asking who everyone is and how she's never seen them, as Deion states that it's because Liv is both a new student and the "IT girl" around school, referring to why she probably doesn't know, flirting with her. Liv reciprocates and who asks Marcus for his number, claiming she had asked one of the cheerleaders for it, and just as Deion is about to share his, he's texted by an unknown number, instructing him to go alone to the locker room. Liv sees the text, and apologizes if she was prying, as Marcus leaves and Liv stands alone and by herself in the aisle.

Meanwhile, Amir looks up information about the film, pointing out its high score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Beth, who's smoking by the window, sarcastically claiming it's her favorite film before denying it and tells Amir she's a horror girl, although agreeing with the truth of the stereotypes as she lists them "The geek (Amir), the rebel (Kym), the jock (Deion), the princess (Liv)". Kym then tells Beth as she gets a book and sits back down to not dare to put her into one of her boxes, as Amir asks which role Beth is from the film, as Kym states how she's the "basket case", before telling her to put her cigarette out due to Manny's asthma. Beth does so reluctantly as Manny takes his inhaler, as Beth goes back to her seat and reads her book. Amir replicates Beth's question from earlier, much to her impression. Suddenly, 18 year old dropout/dealer/party promoter Shane arrives through the window much to everyone's surprise as Kym calls him out on his being in school with them. Shane states he's there to sell and invite them to a pop-up-party tonight at the Old Metro Station for a silent disco, as he hands out orange fliers promoting the party held by Mr. Fade, with a fee of $20 for entrance. Shane then stares face to face with Beth as she is looking uninterested before then informing everyone that they're free to go from the library and to just return at 4:00 PM so that they don't have to do this again, as Kym and Manny then make side comments on their fling, as Amir silently leaves, with Beth and Shane alone in the library as well.

In the locker room, Deion arrives and announces it to his anonymous texter and asks where they're at and who finds that the showers are running but nobody is in them, due to football practice yet not taking place. Deion is then distracted as he hears a phone call going off in one of the lockers and who goes towards it and opens it (presumably his gym locker) to find a phone, which at around 2:40 PM received the text saying "BANG!" before Ghostface appears behind Deion with a taser and tasers him on his back as this takes Deion aback as he falls down to his knees and back from the shock. Deion looks upwards fearfully as Ghostface stands with a knife in hand and who screams and is startled when the knife turns out to be a retractable toy knife, as Ghostface would then stun and tasers Deion again for a second time before leaving him unconscious; which he would later then be found by the detention crew and who carried him out into an empty hallway to see if he would awaken, with Amir asking if he was dead as Manny suggest too many hits to the head, due to being found in the locker room. Deion awakes and who asks them if any of them saw what just happened, claiming somebody just jumped him, by stating "Ghostface" by name to them, who tries to convince them by showing them the texts on his phone, which have since been wiped. Beth tells him how they're doing a good job, as everyone looks unconvinced as Deion then states he has to go and leaves running from the school.

Trivia

On October 14th, 2016, MTV confirmed that Scream was renewed for a third season (subtitled Resurrection, per VH1).*

• According to original showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register, the original plot for the third season was as follows: In season 3, fans would have seen Willa Fitzgerald's Emma returning to Lakewood, despite trying to leave and start over. As the season progressed, it would've approached what Scream has become famous for, going in the meta direction. With Emma returning home, more killings would continue and we would have seen surviving characters from the previous seasons dealing with their pain and trauma. They also had a precise idea for a plot point — providing a callback to one of the most iconic horror films ever made, and it included a character that ended up dying in the show’s Halloween special: “We pitched this kind of Silence of the Lambs thing. Someone was doing the killings at Kieran’s bidding, and the only person he would tell what was going on to was Emma. So she came in, and they had to sit face-to-face, and meanwhile, people are being killed. So they’re in a race against time to stop this from happening, all the while she’s sitting with him.”
• The fourth season pitch drove that idea home, and left room for anyone in the Scream universe to join the storyline: “Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and John Karna all track a real life version of the Lakewood 6 that was stolen and woven into the series by the desperate original writer.”
• This is the first season to break off from the storylines of Season 1 and 2, thus marking the TV series as an anthology.
  • Including excluding the titular town of Lakewood, its killer(s), and the Shallow Grove Slasher/Island events from the two Halloween/Halloween II specials after Season 2, which were a failed/unsuccessful bridge gap and attempt for a different version of the third season before it was rebooted and changed with crews/production teams (See Above).
• This is also the only season to have Ghostface return (since Scream 4), albeit not tied into the Scream universe.
  • Despite being part of the franchise, takes place in reality, almost 8 years after the fourth film, but which in-universe, only 7; (See Film Timeline).
• The third season of Scream was released in July 2019, despite how in the canon of the TV series and in the franchise (see TV Series Timeline) is set in October-November 2018 (late fall, making the season take place 8-9 months after the events), overall, is one of various examples within the franchise of some installments being misaligned by the years of their actual release dates and the years within-universe in which they're set, regardless of the timespan in months in between each, either before or after (See Continuity Errors).
  • This is preceded by Scream 2 (1997), with the second film being released in December of 1997, despite the films events in-universe taking place ahead in June of 1998, thus released beforehand just by a year (in reality, taking place 6 months before the film's events), reversed similarly for the third season (as well as its finale which flashes forward to the same year, albeit ahead by a month within the year in-universe and its release date of the final episode, implying it for August 2019 instead of July; See Below).
    • Excluding the original film and Scream 3, despite the latter film's timeline having also being a byproduct of changes in reality, originally being different/set a year earlier in the summer of 1999; retconned. Making the third film the only installment, thus far, to have had its events take place in/around the exact same date as its theatrical release in reality to the events of the film in-universe (despite how some of the murders take place a few days before February 4, 2000).
  • This would occur after the release of the third season and be succeeded by the release of Scream (2022), which like the previous two projects, was released theatrically in January of 2022, despite the films events taking place before (this is an homage to the first Scream, which was released in December of 1996, despite how in-universe, the film's events occur almost 2-3 months back, since it was set back in September-October 1996), within in-universe (reality was released 4 months later) taking place in September 2021 (like the fourth film, earlier drafts and errors align it to be 2020, also scrapped; similar to the fourth film)
    • Similar to Scream 4 (2011) was released in April of 2011, (albeit the films original draft, and trilogy had references of it being 2010, scrapped; referenced in error in the fifth film as well, which is now apart of a new trilogy following the scrapped one after the fourth), although the events in the film take place almost 5-6 months after, due to how in reality/in-universe, the events of the film are set in the early fall or September-October 2011.
• In regards to continuities and both timelines (Film and TV) in-universe of the franchise, the third season of Scream took place in the timeline and during it's second and third episodes, on the same date of the events of the eleventh Halloween film, Halloween (2018), which was released in-universe (reality), almost less than a week before the events of the third season (although in reality the third season was released a year later).
  • The use of retconning in both the third season and especially the 2018 Halloween, which would be a part of a new trilogy, in the trend of requels, would follow with the fifth Scream (2022) and the possible new trilogy taking place, following after the original 1996 film, respectively.
• The subtitle for the third season is an homage to the Halloween franchise (based off John Carpenter's 1978 film of the same name, which has been referenced throughout the Scream franchise in an homage to it), specifically for the title for the eighth movie in its series, Halloween: Resurrection (which is a separate timeline in the Halloween series, based off a scrapped trilogy, following Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later).
  • Like Scream: Resurrection, amongst fans in both communities, are equally disliked similarly, despite the differences in each (disregarding race and/or culture, mainly focused on criticisms stemming from each project's finished product, quality-wise, regardless of the diversity or the casts in each).
    • The main reason being like the 2002 film, the third season of the TV series is equal to the film in that both replace a previously ongoing original storyline and character(s) with a new one (such as in the 2002 film, killing Laurie Strode, the titular heroine of the Halloween films, portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis; parallel to ditching the Lakewood Six storyline from the first 2 seasons, respectively) .
      • This parallelism from the 2002 film, in terms of retconning and being downvoted within ranks of the Scream franchise for the third season, is an homage to Scream 3 and it's like to dislike ratio amongst fans.
  • In regards to in-fictional universes (regardless of the alternate timelines within the Halloween franchise, known to exist in Scream-universe), the fact that the year-date for both the 1978 Halloween (film and in-universe) and the 2002 Resurrection (second of three alternate timelines within) are significant in that each contain the birth years for characters in both the film (specifically original film and third season), respectively such as:
    • The original Halloween taking place in Halloween, 1978, which in the allocated time, was part of the first birth year (latter 1979) for most of the Woodsboro High School Class of 1997 (as well as with Mickey as a Windsor College freshman, and Angelina Tyler).
      • The actual release date and existence of the film (released on October 25th, 1978) in itself also counts for the Woodsboro High Class of 1997.
    • The eight Halloween film, Resurrection (part of alternate timeline, unlike original, from which various alternated from), took place in Halloween of 2002 (as well as alternate death of Laurie in the film opening being Halloween 2001), are in the time-period references, the birth years for a majority of the Weaver High School Class of 2019 and 2020 (more so the first), including Marcus and Deion Elliot.
      • This also counts for the film's existence and actual release date (released on July 12th, 2002) as a time frame for the Weaver High Class of 2019/2020, respectively.
        • Among the third season characters, the birth-dates also includes film character Tara Carpenter from the fifth film (b. 12/14/2002, born 2 months after events of Halloween: Resurrection; in reality, born 5 months and 2 days after the film's release), from the Woodsboro High Class of 2022, despite being born a year prior from the allocated years in her own high school class, respectively (b. September 2003-August 2004), thus setting her graduation year like those from the third season, in 2020, but more so, 2021, retconned (See Continuity Errors).
  • The third season of the TV series is the first (and of the overall franchise, in terms of projects), politically speaking, to have been aired during a U.S Republican president's term in office, which the season makes note of (Donald Trump in "The Deadfast Club", whom they refer to).
    • The previous four films, and subsequent past two seasons, were all released during a U.S Democratic president's time in office (Bill Clinton during the original Scream trilogy, and Barack Obama in Scream 4 and the first two seasons of the TV series; succeeded by Obama's former VP, Joe Biden, during Scream (2022) and Scream 6).
      • Regardless, the commentary in culture and politics regards to these aspects, is loosely based off Scream 2, in regards to the diversity of the cast in the third season, which in it infers and adheres, but which doesn't deter from either, nevertheless.
• Season 2 showrunners, Michael Gans and Richard Register, were replaced by new ones for the new season.
• This season is the shortest season of the series due to the fact that it only had six episodes.
• On March 6th, 2017, Tracy Middendorf announced on twitter that she would not be reprising her role of Maggie Duval in the third season of Scream.
• On April 26th, 2017, MTV announced that, after multiple rumors had surfaced online, they were rebooting the series with the third season, with a new cast and setting.
  • As part of the reboot process, it was revealed that Brett Matthews would serving as the main showrunner.
  • In addition, Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty were added as executive producers for the series under Flavor Unit Entertainment.
• On May 5th, 2017, MTV announced the new cast for the new season:
  • RJ Cyler as Deion Elliot. A star running back for the high school football team, Deion hopes to secure a college football scholarship that will take him far away from Atlanta. But his plan seems destined to fail when he becomes the target of a masked killer with ties to his past. Someone knows Deion’s darkest secret… and they’ll use it to destroy him.
  • Jessica Sula as Liv. Liv is the new girl at school. As a member of the cheer squad and an honor roll student, the teen seems to have a good head on her shoulders and an ideal life. But as she and Deion grow closer, amid the murder and mayhem, it becomes clear that she has just as many secrets as everyone else.
  • Keke Palmer as Kym. A rebel with a thousand causes, she's a bold and beautiful social activist with a big heart and zero patience for suffering fools. When Kym and her friends find themselves hunted by a killer, she works to flip the script and survive at any cost.
  • Giorgia Whigham as Beth. Caustic and darkly funny, Beth is the resident goth girl and a local tattoo artist. As an unapologetic fan of horror films, she's outspoken about her encyclopedic knowledge of movie murder -- which is sure to come in handy with a killer on the loose.
  • Tyga as Jamal, Deion's step-brother. Despite hanging out with a rough crowd, he’s got a big heart and an undying loyalty to Deion.
  • C.J. Wallace as Amir, a good kid with strict parents who demand he stay away from the ladies and ultimately work in the family business. But Amir wants to someday make music -- a dream he has to hide. Until, that is, he becomes the target of a killer. Facing a gruesome end courtesy of a guy in a mask makes Amir realize he may want to chase his dreams — if he survives
  • Giullian Yao Gioiello as Manny. Manny, who is openly gay, is loyal to a fault. Usually the smartest person in the room, he’s destined to achieve great things. But his wits are put to the test when he suddenly finds himself in the cross hairs of a killer, which makes his simple goal of surviving high school and moving on with his life seem impossible.
  • Tyler Posey as Shane. Shane is a a high school dropout. He is a drug dealer and party promoter who is always hustling in order to make money. But beneath that exterior, there's more to Shane than anyone realizes.
• On July 17th, 2017, MTV announced that rappers Tyga and C.J. Wallace were cast as a series regular for the new season. In addition, their character descriptions were revealed.
  • They also stated that the season will "feature a special binge model". Its six episodes will air during a special three-night event.
  • Initially, MTV confirmed the release date of the season to sometime in March 2018.
  • However, Deadline later reported that the third season would premiere sometime in 2018.
• On July 19th, 2017, Hollywood Reporter announced that the show would transition into an anthology series in the third season. This information was corroborated by MTV president, Chris McCarthy.
• On September 13th, 2017, MTV announced that actresses Keke Palmer, Jessica Sula, and Giorgia Whigham and actors RJ Cyler and Giullian Yao Gioiello would be joining the cast of the upcoming third season of Scream, expanding the main cast.
• On September 18th, 2017, it was announced by Bloody Disgusting that the Ghostface mask from the film series would be making an appearance in the third season.
• On September 21st, 2017, it was confirmed via a twitter post that Jeremy Zuckerman would return to compose the soundtrack for the third season.
• On September 25th, 2017, it was announced by MTV that Tyler Posey was cast in the series regular role of Shane in the third season.
• On October 10th, 2017, Keke Palmer confirmed in an interview that Roger L. Jackson would be returning to voice Ghostface in the third season.
• To promote the third season, MTV released a website with fans wearing the Ghostface mask and father death costume. It was meant to be a Halloween surprise, but was released a day late, on November 1st.
• Filming for the third season began on September 18th and concluded on November 11th, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
• On November 13th, 2017, it was confirmed that William Scharpf would be playing as Ghostface in the third season of Scream. This information was corroborated by an online article, detailing the attendance of several cast members to a wrap-up party. The party that was held was to commemorate the end of filming production for the third season.
• On February 2nd, 2018, Hollywood Reporter announced that Big Boi was cast in a recurring role in the third season.
• On March 28, 2018, it was confirmed that Harvey Weinstein will not be credited as an executive producer in the third season of Scream. In addition, the show will not include The Weinstein Company or its logo on its credits from the third season onward, even though the company was formerly involved in the distribution of the series.
• On July 17, 2018, Hollywood Reporter confirmed that in the midst of Lantern Capital's acquisition of the assets of The Weinstein Company, a former output deal between The Weinstein Company and Netflix was terminated. As a result, Netflix will likely not stream the third season on their platform.
• On August 16, 2018, it was announced that Mary J. Blige would playing Sherry Elliot, Deion's mother.
• On October 12, 2018, it was confirmed by Bloody Disgusting that Tony Todd will would in a recurring role in the third season of Scream.
• On October 16, 2018, it was confirmed that Lantern Entertainment and Netflix settled a contract dispute with the terms of the deal left undisclosed to the public.
• On June 24, 2019, it was confirmed that VH1 would air the third season, retitled Scream: Resurrection, from July 8, 2019 to July 10, 2019.
• On June 24, 2019, it was confirmed that Paris Jackson would make a cameo appearance in the third season.
• On June 24, 2019, the first trailer for the series was officially released.
• On June 30, 2019, it was confirmed that Nash Grier would appear as the character TJ in the third season.
• On July 1, 2019, the official trailer for the third season was released.
• On August 20, 2019, Netflix confirmed that the third season is available to stream in the United States on September 1, 2019.
