Neil's fate[]
This is for future notice in case anyone wants to make changes to his fate, but may need some intel on the situation.
Unfortunately, the answer to whether Sidney's father is actually dead or alive is uncertain as of yet. So it is best to leave it as "Unknown". The only confirmation given is a deleted scene in Scream 4, but to count that deleted scene is also to count many other deleted scenes that are inconsistent with the telling of events in all of the films.
For example, a deleted scene in the fourth film by Kirby states that Sidney's character is gone after Stab 3, and this fills in a clue stated by Jenny in the opening scene, that the "original trilogy is based off Sidney Prescott". But Scream 5 contradicts this, and states that Sidney is in every film, but the last one.
However, technically this is not a continuity error, because the fountain scene with Kirby was deleted. Only the Marnie scene remains where Sidney threatened to sue if they "used her story" so they started "making stuff up". The assumption now is that Sidney's "real-life" story was going to be used in someway for Stab 4, or more logically a remake because the true story ended with the trilogy anyway, but in the Scream-world, she prevented this somehow with a legal threat. If it is an actual in-universe Stab remake she prevented, then it resolves the issue.
The point being, many excuse the contradiction in Scream 5 by ignoring Kirby's scene at the fountain because it never happened in the theatrical cut of the film. Similarly, the crime scene aftermath with Jenny and Marnie was deleted because the opening scene was re-shot, and so the injuries/crime scene therefore looked very different in the end, including a break-in.
Neil's role in the fourth film kept changing due to the story being streamlined significantly by Bob Weinstein's request. So there is no official mention of him in the film. The only implication we get is that Sidney's father does not live there anymore, because she chose to stay with her estranged aunt and cousin instead. That is possibly due to her father's death, but it could also be due to him moving away. Forwardthenbackwards (talk) 15:13, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
