Format[]
Still Screaming tells of the development history and behind-the-scenes production of Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), and Scream 3 (2000) by editing together on-screen interviews, footage from the films themselves, and candid pictures and production stills. The documentary features interviews with the cast and crew of all three films, including stars Neve Campbell and David Arquette as well as director Wes Craven.
The film opens with a fictional dramatic sequence, in which two teenage girls are stalked and killed by Ghostface, while preparing to watch the Scream films themselves. The sequence is inspired by the 'opening kill' introductory scenes of the Scream films.
Development[]
Director Ryan Turek explained in an interview with Examiner that he and producer Anthony Masi came up with the idea to do Still Screaming in 2010 while in production for another horror film documentary, The Hellraiser Legacy. Turek, who was a writer in that production, was anxious to helm a documentary as a director as well. Because of Scream's then-upcoming 15th anniversary as well as the then-pending release of Scream 4 the following year, Turek and Masi decided the film series would make a timely subject. Turek cites Scream as one of his major film influences growing up.
Release[]
Still Screaming had its world premiere on April 14, 2011 at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles, CA, one day before the release of Scream 4. The documentary was screened in an event hosted by the FearNET TV station. The event included red carpet arrivals for attendees, the film screening, and a Q&A session with Ryan Turek and Anthony Masi.
Still Screaming made its home video debut as an extra feature in the Scream series Blu-Ray box set, released September 6, 2011. The film was packaged on a disc that also included fellow Scream retrospective film Scream: The Inside Story.
