Carpenter's death.

Sheriff Carpenter was a minor character in Season 2 of the slasher horror TV series, Scream. He was portrayed by Derek Roberts. He was the sheriff of Shallow Grove Island and well aware of Anna Hobbs and her allegedly murdering her family, thus being dubbed the Shallow Grove Slasher. Carpenter knew teens were always pulling pranks on the island around Halloween time of the year, unknown to him, that Tom Martin (pretending to be Alex Whitten who he murdered) went on a killing spree as the Shallow Grove Slasher. Ultimately Carpenter is his 4th victim after Noah Foster and Stavo Acosta learned that their friend Billie Field was missing after finding what they thought was blood, which Carpenter dismissed as a prank.

Shallow Grove Murders

Sheriff Carpenter was the Sheriff of Shallow Grove Island, he was preparing himself for another year of Anna Hobbs/ Shallow grove Slasher pranks from teenagers. It wouldn't be long before he got his first call to what he thought was a prank, which was a possible missing person/murder at the Whitten manor. Noah Foster and Stavo Acosta called the police when they went to the manor and couldn't find their friend Billie Field and instead found what appeared to be blood. When Sheriff Carpenter arrived and examined the possible crime seen he dismissed it as prank, claiming teens do this every year, unknown that Tom Martin in fact killed Billy (Along with the real Alex Whitte, her ex and Sid). Later that night Sheriff Carpenter got a call from his dispatcher, warning about the weather.

Death

As Sheriff Carpenter is driving, he sees something suspicious on the road. After getting out of his vehicle, Carpenter goes to take a better look and sees a fishing net. He pulls the fishing net and sees its the body of Sid, the Store Owner, who has the Shallow Grove Slasher costume on display. He then hears a noise in the bush and walks towards it with his gun drawn, but he is ambushed by Tom Martin dressed as the Shallow Grove Slasher. Carpenter is hit in the head with the garden sheers and his fingers are chopped off. Then his head is decapitated with the sheers and placed outside of the Whitten Manor for Emma Duval and her friends to find.

• His name is most likely a reference to John Carpenter, the director of Halloween, the executive producer of Halloween II, which both the episodes he appeared in are named after.
• Despite his last name, Sheriff Carpenter isn't related to Samantha and Tara Carpenter.

• He is the 3rd victim to be dismembered in some way fashion after Seth Branson's hand is severed.
