The New York Murders, also known as the Sixth Ghostface Murders, were a series of violent murders in New York City perpetrated by Wayne Bailey, Ethan Landry and Quinn Bailey as acts of vengeance after the death of their relative, Richie Kirsch, at the hands of Samantha Carpenter. They began with the murder of Blackmore University student, Jason Carvey, who had previously killed his film professor, Laura Crane.

It is said that these take place in the year 2023 and are happening one year after the events of Scream (2022 film), however it is stated multiple times in the 2022 film that they take place in 2021, one year after the release of Stab 8. This causes an inconsistency in the timeline of the films (See: Continuity Errors).
The murders were spearheaded by Wayne Bailey, the father of Richie Kirsch, who learnt about the truth of his son's death through Gale Weathers' book, Requel: Terror Returns To Woodsboro. He brought his kids: Quinn and Ethan and helped them enroll at Blackmore University under false identities in order to get close to Sam and Tara.
To cover their tracks, Wayne transferred the ownership of the abandoned theatre containing the Ghostface shrine he helped Richie build into Jason Carvey's name; a student at Blackmore who wanted to continue making Richie's film with the help of his friend, Greg Bruckner.

Blackmore University[]
After surviving the 2022 Woodsboro Murders and graduating from Woodsboro High School: Tara Carpenter, Chad Meeks-Martin, and Mindy Meeks-Martin all enrolled at Blackmore University and moved to New York City to study. When Samantha Carpenter was cut off by Christina Carpenter, her and Tara's mother, Sam realized she had nothing left for her in Woodsboro and, being fearful for Tara's safety, moved to New York. She took "two shitty jobs" in order to support her and Tara's living. Eventually, Mindy met and formed a romantic relationship with Anika Kayoko, another student at Blackmore.
Gale Weathers' New Book[]
Despite telling Sam she wouldn't, Gale Weathers figured that someone would eventually write a book about the Third Woodsboro Murders and so, she decided to write it herself, naming it Requel: Terror Returns To Woodsboro. However, in her usual fashion, she riddled it with inaccuracies and exaggerations, even going as far as playing into the latest theories about Sam being the true mastermind of the murders. This led to friction between her and the Carpenter sisters. The book was discovered by Wayne Bailey who learnt the truth about how his son, Richie Kirsch, was killed. Because of this, he wanted revenge against Sam for killing his son, and devised a new killing spree with his kids, Quinn Bailey and Ethan Landry.
Enrolling at Blackmore University[]
Wayne helped Quinn and Ethan enroll at Blackmore University under different identities. Wayne and Quinn kept up the father-daughter persona, and Ethan lived a separate, unrelated life. Ethan manipulated the housing arrangements so he would be assigned as Chad's roommate to get close to him, and Quinn responded to an anonymous ad placed by Tara and Sam for a roommate. She presented herself as a "sex positive" woman who was studying at Blackmore and that her father was a Detective in the NYPD, possibly to gain their trust and make them feel safe around her. Whether they kept their true first names are unknown. It is unknown how long they waited before kicking off their spree.
Jason Carvey[]
Their first target was a film student named Jason Carvey who was a fan of Richie's and, along with his friend, Greg Bruckner, wanted to finish making Richie's movie. It is unknown whether they initially worked with Jason or if they were made aware of his plans unintentionally. One night, to satisfy his blood lust, Jason lured in his film professor, Laura Crane, by matching with her on a dating app using a false identity.
Using various manipulation tactics, Jason lured Laura into an alleyway just across from the restaurant where they were supposed to meet and then swapped to a Ghostface voice where he taunted her and then jumped out and murdered her. Jason took off his mask, changed back into a Blackmore University sweatshirt, and returned to the campus where he crossed paths with Tara who was attending a frat party. Whilst this was happening, Wayne murdered Greg and stored his body in the refrigerator.
Jason returned to his dorm and Quinn called him using Greg's phone and posed as Greg. She used security cameras in the dorm to play a game of Hot and Cold with Jason where she led him to the refrigerator and allowed Jason to discover Greg's body, similar to the opening of Friday the 13th: Part 2 (1981 film). Wayne then appeared behind Jason wearing a Ghostface robe and Billy Loomis' old mask, then killed him. When Jason asked about finishing Richie's movie, Wayne responded: "Who gives a fuck about movies?", and finished him off.
Luring Sam and the Bodega Attack[]
After news of Jason and Greg's murders are aired to the public, Tara asks Quinn to call Wayne who then asks to speak to Sam. Wayne tells Sam that her driver's license was found at the scene of Jason's murder and that he needs her to come to the station for questioning. Reluctantly, she lets Tara come with her and along the way, gets a call from Richie's number, which she hadn't deleted from her phone. Against better judgement, Sam answers the call and Ghostface answers to taunt her. Shortly after that, Ghostface ambushes the sisters from an alleyway. They evade him and run into a nearby bodega for help.
Ghostface follows them in and then kills a customer who tries intimidating him. He kills another customer who tries to intervene and the rest of the customers flee as the bodega clerk pulls out a shotgun which he uses to fire at Ghostface, who manages to evade the shot. Sam and Tara try escaping through the back door and as the clerk is distracted getting them the key, Ghostface jumps out and stabs him in the chest. He then overpowers him, takes his shotgun and shoots him to death with it.
Sam and Tara crawl through the bodega, trying to evade him, but reveal their location when Tara breaks a piece of glass. Ghostface tries to shoot them, but they knock a shelf over on him before he is able to do so and are able to run out the front door as the police arrive. As the police storm the bodega, they find that Ghostface has fled the store through the backdoor, but left an aged, rotting, mask behind. The mask is later DNA tested and revealed to have belonged to Jill Roberts and Charlie Walker, along with another mask left behind at the scene of Jason's murder having DNA matching to Richie Kirsch.
Dr. Christopher Stone's Murder[]
After interviewing Sam and Tara, Wayne finds out that Dr. Christopher Stone, Sam's former therapist, has a file on her containing notes made in sessions where Sam admits that murder felt right. With this information, he goes to Dr. Stone's house in the morning and knocks on the front door, luring Dr. Stone over. As he looks out the glass, Wayne smashes through and stabs Dr. Stone in the face and murders him. He then enters the house and steals Sam's file, intending to frame her as the killer by making it appear that she stole her file to cover her tracks. Before leaving with the file, he leaves behind a mask once belonging to Roman Bridger, the perpetrator of the Hollywood Murders in 2000.
Faking Quinn's Death and Murdering Anika[]
That night, when everyone is gathered at Sam, Tara and Quinn's apartment, Ethan dressed as Ghostface and snuck into Quinn's bedroom and murdered her lover, Paul 2.0, in the shower. He then stood above Quinn who was acting oblivious on the phone for appearance's sake, and got the attention of Danny Brackett, Sam and Tara's neighbor. He tried warning Sam, who ignored his phone calls, and then Quinn and Ethan set the scene to make it sound like she was being murdered. He then threw her body through the door and made it appear that she was murdered.
Chad and Tara were able to flee the apartment, but Ethan trapped Mindy, Anika, and Sam in the apartment. Ethan sliced Mindy's arm, and stabbed Anika's stomach, later ripping it open. Sam, Mindy and a heavily bleeding Anika fled to Quinn's bedroom, where they discovered her lover’s body, and Danny got their attention and slid a ladder over to them that connected the two apartments. As Ethan tried to break his way into the room, Sam and Mindy climbed across the ladder and made it into Danny's apartment. As Anika tried to cross over with a stab wound, Ethan managed to get into the room and then shook the ladder, causing Anika to fall to her death.
Fake Phone Call, Brooks' Murder and Gale's Attack[]
Wayne, Quinn and Ethan then devised a plan to trick the group and also attack Gale, intending to kill her. Wayne told the group that he had an idea on how they could trap the killer by having Sam and Tara wander publicly and hopefully trick Ghostface into calling them so they can trace the call, which Kirby is able to do in 15 seconds or less. Unaware that this was a setup, they agreed to the plan and Wayne watched over the sisters in the park as Ethan hid in the police van with Kirby, Chad and Mindy. Quinn, who was already hiding in Gale's apartment on the Upper West Side, called Sam and Tara and Kirby was able to track the call to the apartment. Realizing Ghostface's next move, Sam and Tara stole Wayne's police car to go help her.
In her apartment, where she lives with her new boyfriend, Brooks, Gale gets her first phone call from the killer. Before attacking Gale, Ghostface mentions Dewey Riley cynically several times, thereby bringing out her emotions and demoralizing Gale. Quinn catches Brooks off guard and is able to overpower and kill him and she then throws his body through a bookshelf and chases Gale through the apartment. Gale barricades herself in the bedroom and grabs her gun and fires through the door. Quinn then hides and calls Gale again and taunts her. Gale searches the apartment and then hangs up on Quinn and re-dials her number, exposing her hiding space. Gale fires into the room where Quinn hides and Quinn fakes falling victim to the bullet.
Quinn then barges through the door and stabs her in her left shoulder, then again in her left hip. Gale manages to get away after and then knocks Quinn out and takes her knife also. As she goes to stab Quinn, Quinn grabs a shard of glass from a table she landed on and stabs Gale, almost killing her, but Quinn is eventually forced to flee when Sam and Tara arrive, leaving Gale in a seriously wounded state.
Attacking Mindy on the Subway[]
The group later agrees to trap Ghostface in the theatre and kill him and Wayne advises them to travel in public, with them opting to use the subway. They get separated in the station with Mindy and Ethan having to wait for a later train. They get on, unaware that Quinn has also boarded and along the way, Quinn is able to corner Mindy, muffle her screaming and stab her in front of commuters who don't notice what is happening. Quinn then disembarks at the next station and Ethan notices her bleeding out and calls for help, keeping up the ruse that he is innocent.
A Family of Killers[]
After arriving at the theatre, Quinn ambushes Kirby and knocks her out and then Wayne calls Sam and tells her that he found out that Kirby was kicked out of the FBI for mental health reasons, trying to frame her as the killer. Quinn and Ethan, both in costume wearing Stu Macher's and Nancy Loomis' masks later attack Sam, Tara, and Chad and then stab Chad when he tries to finish Quinn off and leave him for dead.
Sam and Tara return to the theatre and are cornered by Quinn and Ethan, but they flee when Kirby regains consciousness and tries to shoot them. Wayne then arrives and he shoots Kirby, revealing himself as one of the killers as Quinn and Ethan emerge behind him in their masks. He tells them that they both did a good job and Quinn and Ethan unmask themselves where they all reveal that they are Richie's family, with Wayne being his father, and Quinn and Ethan being his siblings, and that they are seeking revenge for Sam killing him.
The two sisters evade the trio, and they flee to the top floor, however, Tara slips off the railing from a shot by Wayne and Sam is just barely able to hold her up as Ethan tries to stab her from below. Quinn starts to corner Sam and Sam then gives Tara the knife she took from Billy's robe display case and lets Tara go. Tara is stabbed in the stomach by Ethan when falling down, but then stabs him in the mouth, seemingly killing him, and Sam shoots Quinn in the head and kills her. Wayne attacks Sam, now angry at losing all of his kids, and he and Sam fall over the railing and Wayne smashes into a glass display case and passes out.
When he regains consciousness, he gets a call from Tara who taunts him posing as Sam using the Ghostface voice. As he steps onto the stage where the robes of the previous killers are kept, he notices that Billy Loomis' robe is missing, and Sam emerges behind him and stabs him to death using Billy's knife and wearing his mask and robe. Just as they think it's over, Kirby regains consciousness and they are almost ambushed by a still-alive Ethan, however, Kirby crushes his skull using the same television that killed Stu Macher in 1996, putting an end to the New York Ghostface murders.
Aftermath[]
With the killers now dead, Danny arrives at the theatre with NYPD officers and reveals that both Mindy and Gale survived their attacks and will recover. Kirby is wheeled out on a stretcher and tells Sam and Tara that they can call her anytime she needs help. Tara cries, realizing that Chad is dead, but the paramedics announce that they found a live one in the theatre and Chad is rolled out. Tara and Chad finally embrace, and Mindy arrives from the hospital, annoyed that she missed the killer's monologue again.
Chad is put into an ambulance and Mindy gets in with him and they drive off to the hospital. Sam pulls Billy's mask that she had concealed in her jacket and fights off the intrusive thoughts, dropping the mask behind her and leaving him behind once more as she, Tara and Danny walk away.
Trivia[]
- This is the first massacre not to involve Sidney Prescott or Dewey Riley, with Sidney having gone into hiding with Mark Evans and their kids after being informed by Gale of the first few murders while Dewey was tragically killed in the previous massacre.
- With Sidney's case, however, it is also due to the fact Neve Campbell chose to not return for Scream VI due to a pay dispute.[1]
