Karen Kolchak, also known as Creepy Karen, is an unseen resident of Woodsboro, California. She worked at the video store with Randy Meeks.

Biography[]

Background[]

During the remainder of his senior year at Woodsboro High, sometime in late-1996 or early-mid 1997, Randy continued to work at the video store. While she was judged and outcast (due to her appearance) by many who visited the video store, namely Dewey Riley (who referred to her as "Creepy Karen"), Randy, however, would have conversations with her while working and found her sweet and easy to speak to.

One day, while putting videos away at the porno section, one thing led to another, and he lost his virginity to her.

The Hollywood Murders (2000)[]

His younger sister, Martha Meeks, who is now 17 (in 2000), and a senior at Woodsboro High visits the Sunrise Studios lot and runs into Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers.

She urges them to see a video. The video is none other than her older deceased brother, Randy. He mentions his future murder at the time and briefly says, "...giving up his virginity to Karen Kolchak probably wasn't a good idea". So, he placed the blame on their relationship for his death in the second killing spree.

Randy, knowing someone was going to judge her when he says who he lost his virginity, quickly defends Karen and says in the video, "Shut up! She's a sweet person. We were putting away videos in the porno section and... things happen" prompting him and Gale to laugh. It was played for laughs, because Randy was likely to be killed either way due to being one of Nancy Loomis' prime targets.

Trivia[]

  • She was described as a goth girl in the script for Scream 3.
  • Her last name was put as Kolchak after the ABC sci-fi series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974-1975).
  • Her surname is Ukrainian.
  • Fairuza Balk was considered for the role of Karen, who would deliver the message to Dewey Riley, not Martha Meeks. It was changed to bring a greater, sibling connection in the film, eventually foreshadowing Roman Bridger's role.
  • Despite Randy blaming their intimate relationship for his death, he maintains that she was a sweet person despite her appearances.
  • Dewey describe her as "Creepy Karen" implying he's noticed her at the video store on multiple occasions.
  • Her age is unknown, but likely to be close to Randy and Sidney's age, possibly a bit older.
  • It isn't revealed how she received news of Randy's death, but we can assume say she was upset about it.
