Hawkins is a recurring character in the third season of the television series Scream. He is portrayed by Drew Starkey.

  • Hawkins is the 5th LGBT character in the series to appear.
    • The first was Audrey Jensen, the second was Rachel Murray, the third was Gina McLane, and the fourth was Manny in the TV series.
    • Hawkins is also the second male LGBT character in the series to appear, and the first male LGBT to not be murdered.
      • Technically, he and Manny would succeed in becoming officially the first LGBT male characters to appear, after the unspecified status of Officer Andrews's sexuality (implied by Sidney) from Scream 2.
      • They are then succeeded by three female LGBTQ characters, Mindy Meeks-Martin and Frances in Scream (2022), and Anika Kayoko in Scream VI, respectively in the films.
  • Hawkins was hooking up with Manny in secret prior to Manny's death before becoming a (secret) couple.
    • Despite being an official, albeit secret, couple and the first between two male LGBTQ characters (romance occurring off-screen), their fling would then be referenced similarly by both Frances and Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream (2022), due to how each are the same sex and it occurs between both a main (Manny and Mindy) and minor (Hawkins and Frances) characters
    • Unlike Manny, Mindy survives her Ghostface attack and would call her fling off with Frances, unlike Hawkins (due to former being a couple, while the latter wasn't).
      • Their relationship is the first pairing of LGBTQ men, thus far, in the franchise, and is preceded by that of Audrey Jensen’s relationships (LGBTQ women) with Rachel Murray in Season 1 and Gina McLane in Season 2, and are succeeded by Mindy and Anika Kayoko’s relationship in Scream VI.
        • Like Audrey and Mindy, Hawkins lost his partner to a killer (as both Manny and Anika were killed by their respective Ghostface).
        • Similar to Audrey and Rachel in the first season, Hawkins and Manny were hooking up and keeping their official relationship a secret.
  • Hawkins is one of various characters in whose last name is never revealed in the Scream franchise.
  • Despite each being different series, Hawkins' first name is the same as the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana from the Netflix teen drama sci-fi horror TV series, Stranger Things, which is perhaps a nod to the show.
    • Coincidentally, each show's third season were released in July of 2019 (with Season 3 of the Netflix series premiering on July 4th, while Resurrection premiered 4 days later on July 8th).
  • He is a high school student at Weaver High School.
  • He knows the killer, Beth, and despite her reveal as Ghostface at the end, was unbeknownst to him the entire season.
  • He is overall the fourth survivor of Ghostface’s killing spree in Season 3, despite having never been attacked or confronted by the killer on-screen.
    • The first being Marcus, the second being Kym, and third being Liv.
    • This is also similar to characters of the film franchise such as Cotton Weary in Scream 2, Mark Kincaid in Scream 3, and Judy Hicks in Scream 4, albeit the difference is that each character is confronted by Ghostface unmasked and survives said confrontations/and or attacks.
  • Hawkins being Marcus's best friend is a nod to the friendship between Sidney Prescott and Tatum Riley (see: Sidney and Tatum) in the original Scream, as well as Sidney and Hallie McDaniel's friendship in Scream 2.
  • He is on the football team with Marcus Elliot, and traded positions with him going from an unspecified position (probably defense) in the team to running back after Marcus (who was the running back) was switched to quarterback following Avery's death.
    • He is on friendly terms with Kym, Liv Reynolds, and Marcus.
    • Him, alongside Kym, his former high school teachers (Pell and Fitch) and coach (Griffins), and Marcus's parents (informal survivors Sherry and Earl) are the only surviving characters to have never been revealed Marcus's true identity.
