Greg Bruckner was a minor character in Scream VI (2023 film). He worked with Jason Carvey to finish Richie Kirsch's movie.
Greg is the first character in the franchise, technically after Steven Orth in the original Scream (1996 film), despite the differences with Steven's brutal death being shown and witnessed by his girlfriend and later victim, Casey Becker, of whose death occurs off-screen and would be stumbled upon, in this case by his roommate. His death being off-screen is perhaps a nod to the original victim of the Woodsboro Murders (1996), Maureen Prescott, mother of the main franchise heroine, Sidney Prescott.
Greg's death as a college student attending Blackmore University would make him the first college victim of a Ghostface murder spree nearly 25-26 years since Derek Feldman's death, the late boyfriend of Sidney, from the infamously known second Ghostface murders and first copycat Windsor College Murders in Windsor College, Ohio.
Greg was the second character to fall victim to the sixth Ghostface killing spree, also known as the New York City Murders, and is the fortieth victim overall of the Scream film franchise.
He was portrayed by Thom Newell.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Greg was born to his unseen parents approximately in approx. April 2004 grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Sometime during junior high school in 2015, he met Jason Carvey and soon developed a friendship with him, with who he would eventually idolize horror movies with. Greg and Jason also idolized Ghostface during this time period and had a shrine dedicated to him hidden in a wardrobe in their dorm room. After the 2022 Woodsboro Murders, he and Jason wanted to finish making the movie that Richie Kirsch was making. The two enrolled at Blackmore University in New York City to follow Samantha Carpenter, Tara Carpenter, Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin, unaware that Wayne Bailey, the father of Richie, and his kids, Quinn and Ethan, were already planning their own killing spree to get revenge against Sam for killing Richie.
The New York City Murders (2023)[]

Greg's corpse in the fridge discovered by Jason.
On the night of October 29th, 2023, Wayne Bailey entered the dorm room of Greg and Jason and killed Greg, decapitating him afterwards. He then put his body in the refrigerator and left it there for Jason to find after he had Quinn call Jason and impersonate Greg using the Ghostface voice which she used to lure Jason to the fridge and find Greg's dismembered body. This acts as a distraction and leads to Jason ending up deceased and finishing off the opening kills.
Greg is one of a few characters to never be shown on screen before his death, with an exception of a brief photo cameo when Quinn calls Jason.
After this, it attracts the attention of FBI Agent Kirby Reed, who was tracking Greg and Jason's online activity and came to New York City after hearing about their murders.

Greg's photo pinned on Kirby's investigation board.
Greg is shown briefly again later on the investigation board presented by Kirby showing a photograph of Greg before his death along with every other Ghostface in the series.

Trivia[]
- Greg is the first antagonist who has no lines or screen time.
- If his death occurred before Laura Crane's, he would've been the first to second victim of the New York City Murders. However, he is the first student victim from Blackmore University.
- Greg as a Film student, alongside his roommate, Jason Carvey, and the Survivor Trio of the Third Woodsboro Murders, the Meeks-Martin twins, Chad and Mindy, and Tara as the Carpenter half-sister, is a reference to Scream 2 and the Film class at Windsor College, including it's alumni being horror expert and 1996 survivor, Randy Meeks (twins' uncle) as well as possible Jason and Greg as Film Guy #1 and #2 (one was portrayed by actor Joshua Jackson, who appeared in Urban Legend in 1998).
- Although Jason and Greg as fans would take after actual Ghostface in those murders, Mickey Altieri, who was also a Film student in the aforementioned class.
- Greg's death and corpse being discovered by his roommate and best friend, Jason Carvey (copycat Ghostface), after opening the fridge (who originally was going to after he arrived before being called) and who prior to, had Jason believe he had been talking to on the phone with the voice modulator, despite it actually being the real Ghostface killer, is a reference to the original non-canon death and deleted scene of Christine Hamilton in Scream 3 (who's corpse fell after the closet opened, reversed with Greg dismembered in the fridge after it was opened).
- Main difference being the relationships of each duo (with Jason and Greg as best friends and college roommates, & Cotton and Christine dating due to Cotton being a talk-show host and who was a cameo in the cancelled Stab 3)
- Reversed in which Cotton Weary (framed killer) arrives to his condo in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California due to being called by Ghostface earlier, in order to find his girlfriend due to the killer threatening him to kill her, (while he was driving) and who was called at first after Cotton arrived him as Ghostface (Roman Bridger) used his voice modulator to change his voice to make him sound and speak like if he was Christine when calling him who pretended she was outside heading to him to lure him out as he opened the front door, before he would then find her body in a closet (earlier he'd opened the bathroom closet, as the bathroom was running an empty shower).
- Meanwhile, Jason arrived to his and Greg's apartment in New York City after as a copycat Ghostface, killed his Blackmore University film professor, Laura Crane, as he had catfished and lured her out to an alleyway (like Roman did to Cotton with Christine by also using a voice changing modulator for him to open the front door in the deleted scene).
- Jason used his real voice to lure Laura before switching to the modulator for Ghostface, difference being Roman came from outside to in as he attacked and killed Cotton, as Jason was outside already as he killed Laura.
- Jason killing Laura as a copycat after catfishing and feigning interest in her is a reverse to Roman as Ghostface calling Cotton in the third film's opening who just prior to switching to Ghostface's voice and threatening him, called him talking as a woman who was seducing in order to lull him before, in order to blackmail as he was taking advantage of Cotton's past infidelity and lack of security, as Cotton is dating Christine due to his fame as a talk-show host, which the modulator using the woman voice makes note of to him as well as having a girlfriend.
- In the third film's Assembly Cut, the voice change from the woman's voice to Ghostface as seen when Cotton was stuck in traffic in the opening isn't changed until Cotton finds Christine in the closet dead and is attacked by Ghostface.
- Unlike in the final canonical third film, where the voice switches and Cotton fails to follow the killer's order of locating Sidney, the dialogue of these orders isn't mentioned.
- Unlike Laura, who was single and a professor and was hoping to catch a date as she was called by "Reggie" by Jason while at a bar.
- Both Cotton and Laura were in their 30s when each were killed by each's respective Ghostface.
- In the third film's Assembly Cut, the voice change from the woman's voice to Ghostface as seen when Cotton was stuck in traffic in the opening isn't changed until Cotton finds Christine in the closet dead and is attacked by Ghostface.
- Jason calls for Greg once arriving home and unlike Cotton driving home through Hollywood traffic at night due to heading to protect his girlfriend, due to his own call by Ghostface prior, was shown after killing Laura and placing his costume away inside his backpack, walking home, also at night, in New York City as he crossed his campus where he talked briefly to survivor, Tara Carpenter (this is a reference to Cotton being killed due to knowing Sidney, as well as a spin of it with Cotton talking to his agent of being a cameo in Stab 3; later in sixth film, Tara's referred to by frat Frankie as the girl in California from all the "Stab shit").
- Difference with Jason and Greg is that while Cotton arrived paranoid due to the threat as he was looking for Christine, Jason didn't and it wouldn't be until after he was called by who he thought was Greg using the Ghostface voice and who pressed him in on their motive that'd he get suspicious (likely Wayne Bailey as Ghostface would then had gotten Greg's phone following dismembering him & putting him in the fridge, like Roman did after he killed Christine off-screen and placed her in the closet, as he calls Cotton via cell, using the voice modulator to only then change to her voice). "Greg" makes Jason play a game of Hot N Cold in order to find him, just like how Cotton was threatened by his Ghostface to kill his girlfriend unless he arrived home to play their game (the deleted scene and the canon opening of the third film use this tactic of the killer playing a game with a target by threatening the other person, reversed in the sixth film's openings).
- Jason, however, doesn't realize this as he is forced to find his friend rather than look for them, who like Cotton with Ghostface's threat of killing Christine, is then played with by Greg due to questioning their motive and acting dumb in regards to killing Samantha and Tara due to finishing the last killer's, Richie Kirsch's, film.
- Reversed as seeing after killing Jason and Greg as "Stab" fans, with Jason then commenting before he died to the real Ghostface on how they have to finish the movie, with the killer saying "Who gives a fuck about movies?"; this a reverse to Christine in the canon opening of the third film, opposite of her being off-screen killed in the deleted scene, of her not being a fan of Cotton's "Stab "games" when she hears music blasting in their house, seemingly alone, just like with Cotton as he found music blaring once arriving home in both iterations; difference with the deleted scene is how Ghostface mimicking Christine's voice, says she'll arrive to their home after Cotton tells her to call the police after he said a woman was in the house pulling a prank, testing him, just like "Greg" to Jason did to find him.
- He is one of the few villains to be opening victims during a massacre.
- He is the first character in the films to be dismembered in some fashion.
- The first time in the franchise would be Tyler O'Neill in Season 1 of the TV series, whose death was also off-screen.
- Next would be Seth Branson in Season 2, whose right hand was severed by the Lakewood Slasher (Kieran Wilcox).
- Greg's body being discovered by Jason in the refrigerator before Jason is then killed himself by Ghostface heavily references the opening of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981 film), where in a similar fashion, Alice Hardy opens her refrigerator only to find the decapitated head of Pamela Voorhees and reacts to it in shock before then getting grabbed from behind by Jason Voorhees and having an ice pick stabbed into her temple, killing her.
- Also to note, Louis "Fat Lou" Goddard from Jason X (2001 film) is dismembered off-screen like Greg himself by Jason Voorhees.
- Ironically, Greg's best friend is named Jason.
- Also to note, Louis "Fat Lou" Goddard from Jason X (2001 film) is dismembered off-screen like Greg himself by Jason Voorhees.
- Him and Jason are the first film characters from Atlanta, Georgia.
- The main characters from the third season of the TV show predate them.
- Greg and Jason are around the same age as them too.
- The main characters from the third season of the TV show predate them.

- ↑ The New York Murders in Scream VI took place on Halloween week, 2023, so just a year after the Third Woodsboro Murders were committed on the 26th anniversary of the September 1996 murders, thus in September 2022. Although, despite sixth film showing dates from Halloween week corresponding to 2022, Greg was born in April 2004, so he would’ve been 18 the year before (2022), who in 2023, had turned 19, before the murders.
