The relationship of Lakewood Six (second of an original quad) protagonist and the mayor's daughter (and George Washington High School's queen bee), Brooke Maddox, and transfer student and the new Lakewood Sheriff's son Gustavo Acosta, began implicitly in Season 2. The duo began flirting or perhaps knew of each other prior to the events of the continued Second Lakewood Murders, after they were brought together during their return to school and murders in January-February 2016.

The resulting death of Brooke's previous first relationship and boyfriend (now, deceased ex, prior to his death), Jake Fitzgerald, and his murder as the first victim of Piper's accomplice, Kieran Wilcox, would lead for Brooke and Gustavo to grow closer to, and who would find support in one another. Prior to the reveal of Jake's death in Happy Birthday to Me, it's shown that both Gustavo and Brooke had a strong flirtation going on, unbeknownst until later on to neither Jake, or the Lakewood Six. Gustavo being a contender in Brooke's love life was due to the obvious cliche of her relationship with Jake, who were each well known as survivors as well as popular.
Jake was well known as an exuberant, but had his own secrets and insecurities, as well as his reputation for being a womanizer and whose sleaziness was within him being an athlete and popular. Regardless, it's unclear as it's neither stated whether Brooke or Gustavo started flirting prior or if Gustavo had transferred immediately after or during the hiatus and it's reactivation following the death of Piper Shaw (revealed to be the first, albeit second, Lakewood Slasher) in Halloween 2015.
Despite this, it would be Brooke to then break up with Jake after about 3 months, after she disagreed to take their relationship public per Jake's insistence during a secret (and last) rendezvous with him after hours at the swimming pool at George Washington High on January 24th, 2016, due to fear of retaliation from her father and the public; who after his disappearance and then learning of his death 5 days later on January 29th, after his body was rolled down from a banner during an assembly for the Lady of the Lake pageant listing, traumatizing her would resent and regret.
Regardless, it would then be Brooke who would fall for Gustavo's intriguing personality, his physique, and overall loyalty to her (having snooped through his sheriff father's police files for her during her dealing with Branson) and his open-mindedness as they flirted prior to Jake's death reveal, who would comfort her as a friend and helping her deal throughout the rest of the season and who, as a result of trying to find the killer and Gustavo being set up as a suspect, would test their relationship, which ultimately resulted in it being stronger, due to Gustavo never having been the killer and cementing it.
They began dating soon after Brooke was healed after her attack on February 5th, which saw Gustavo breakdown at the news of Brooke's attack and surgery at the Lakewood Hospital (who had been locked out by Brooke in fear and due to Noah's trust issues, who had been attacked prior and dispatched off the hospital; during Emma and Audrey's run from the police as suspects and setting up a rendezvous/trap for the killer at the empty Zenith Theatre during the day) which was revealed to be Emma's then former boyfriend and her half-sister's Piper's secret lover/accomplice, Kieran.
The duo then began a relationship throughout the remainder of their junior year and would be tested again in October 2016, as they survived the events in Halloween and Halloween II of Tom Martin's murder spree in Shallow Grove Island during their senior year (as well as the knowledge of a Third Killer) as well as Brooke applying to New York University, and Gustavo's lack of drive for college, which they were tested as well as with Billie Fields toying and trying to get with Gustavo, which Brooke at first believed Gustavo led on, which was confirmed to be false due to Gustavo then denying Billie off prior to her murder due to his feelings for Brooke, proving his loyalty and testing their relationship for the first time since Brooke was with Jake (prior to his death).
Due to the cliffhanger ending and reboot of Season 3, it's implied but unclear whether Brooke or Gustavo remained or what happened. But for future's sake, it's safe to assume (unless retconned, TBA), that most likely that after both graduating from high school in 2017, Brooke left Lakewood for her first year of college to NYU at New York City and Gustavo moved in with Brooke to the city, due to her statement at the end of "Halloween II".
Biography[]
Season 2[]

Brooke tells Gustavo, threatening yet amorously, that he doesn't know the Lakewood Six, "Not really", after he talks her down about him ranking the group and shading Jake for his ways.
Tuesday, January 26th, 2016[]
Brooke is shown arriving to the Lakewood Sheriff's Department station following having not received any physical contact from her ex, Jake Fitzgerald, ever since breaking up with him two days prior on Sunday, January 24th, in order to file a missing person's report, unbeknownst to her or anyone of his death having taken place the next night on Monday, January 25th. She arrives and is then sat down by the clerk while she waits for Sheriff Miguel Acosta (replaced the previous sheriff and her former friend, Kieran's father) to file the missing person's report. Sitting across from her three chairs down is the new sheriff's son, Gustavo, whose shown doing homework, with whom she shares a Psychology class with alongside her friends Emma, Noah, and Zoë, and whom she caught a day prior lurking and eavesdropping subliminally on a conversation about Jake between her and Emma, specifically on enticing Jake to text her by sending a "boob pic".
Each when they first meet are formerly acquaintances, with Brooke a 16-year old teenager and a popular student, and Gustavo was either a 17 to 18-year old and transfer student, with an intrigue for the macabre, which he controlled via drawing. The two talk for the first time at the police station as Brooke, despite knowing of Acosta and his police father, regardless strikes up a conversation with him as Gustavo subliminally shades Jake, as well as Brooke for going after him. She disregards this as just jealousy and who would then playfully make her move as she taunts Gustavo (after talking with him about Gustavo adding the ranking to the Lakewood Six after Noah coined them and how she was third, despite her attack, much to Brooke's disbelief) after she gets up once the clerk calls her and who receives a supposed text from Jake and claims Gustavo, who she finds as she turns around and faces him mere inches away, doesn't know anything like anyone else about the Lakewood Six, at least not really before smiling and walking off as Gustavo watches her go off.
Shallow Grove Island, 2016[]
Following the events in the aftermath of Kieran Wilcox's incarceration and reveal as Piper's secret lover and accomplice who had recontinued the infamous Lakewood Murders against Emma and her friends, Gustavo and Brooke had begun dating and who each became enamored with one another following their previous hook-ups throughout January-February 2016. They would then start a relationship, which during the time, had lasted eight months in the time before Halloween 2016. Their relationship would be put to the test due to Gustavo, an aspiring illustrator, lacking any motivation for going to college and his dreams, much to the dismay of Brooke. When he, alongside his business-partner (via Jeremy, yet both their friend) Noah, due to their boss Jeremy, whom they had helped with publishing a comic series based on the 2015-2016 murders, would be invited away from Lakewood (amidst Kieran's murder after his sentencing and the existence of a Third Killer emerging) to Shallow Grove Island to study the supposed the supposed myth and write a novel of a 1930s Halloween night storm murder supposedly committed by a teenage Anna Hobbs, which Gustavo was an avid believer of and who was looking forward to distract himself from Brooke's impending departure to college and their strained feelings.
However, they each reunited and were tested not only by the flirtation of another woman against Brooke, which Gustavo allowed but later detested, who was then murdered, but were brought to survive when a storm hit the island and a stalker of Emma's which Brooke had met, Tom Martin, was revealed to be the killer. Neither Brooke or Gustavo faced off the killer, but were each united and would later begin to strengthen their relationship. In the finale, Brooke states that Gustavo is going to move to New York City with her, and there's nothing he can say, ultimately suggesting that off-screen (whether or not if Third Lakewood Murders occured) once graduating, Brooke and Gustavo moved to New York and Gustavo moved in with Brooke as she began attending NYU as a freshman for the Class of 2021.
