Ghostface’s Methods refers to the modus operandi that is operated by Ghostface throughout the Scream franchise, evolving and differentiating slightly from the methods used by the killers on their victims from the original film onwards.

Over the course of the franchise, Ghostface has killed most victims with a Buck 120. 

However, from time to time, he/she would often use other items. Mickey Altieri, Jill Roberts and Amber Freeman used guns to kill their victims after revealing themselves. Beth and Wayne Bailey are exceptions, only firing their guns at the moment to wound their victims to reveal themselves, thus being the few Ghostface(s) to shoot their guns and hit their victims, but not finish them off. Like Beth also using a gas leak, in this case from a car, to trap and kill her victim, Manny, trapped in a burning vehicle in a cornfield she locked, which would eventually explode; Roman Bridger used gas to kill his own trapped victim (albeit lured), Tom Prinze, inside Jennifer Jolie's home (of which he also cut the power) in the Hollywood Hills, which also led to an explosion, becoming the first Ghostface to do so. Ghostface also has crushed and/or impaled victims. In Scream 4, Ghostface uses a Buck 120. In the third season of the TV series, Scream: Resurrection, which featured Ghostface's return after an absence in the first two seasons, Ghostface uses a Buck 119 instead, as well as various other items.

Below, is a list of people Ghostface has used the weapons on, whether they survived or not. It also includes the people revealed to be Ghostface, as that so far that most have died. The following are both most of the common methods of Ghostface's M.O while others are new.

  • In both films and TV series, Ghostface has used the Buck 120/119 knife the most frequently, due to it being the signature weapon in attacking, wounding, and killing his/her victims, making it the only constant variable and weapon in the franchise.
  • 10 Ghostface killers have at least one relation to past or present victims/survivors and or characters in the franchise:
  • Of all the Ghostface killers, only 3 have used different weapons to kill their victims
    • Beth (drug needle used to impale Shane's eye and kill him via drug overdose, bonesaw for Amir)
    • Amber Freeman (switchblade for Vince)
    • Wayne Bailey (shotgun for Bodega Clerk)
  • Out of all the 14 Ghostface killers (12 in film, 2 in TV), only 7 were killed in quick succession and weren't given a chance for their one last scare at the hands of either their accomplices betraying them or the survivors.
    • Stu Macher (wounded by Billy inflicting stab, killed by Sidney via smashing television on skull, died via electrocution)
    • Nancy Loomis (shot in the chest by Cotton Weary, killed by Sidney by shooting her in the head)
    • Charlie Walker (stabbed by Jill in the heart, betrayed)
    • Jamal Elliot (stabbed by trash picker pin in torso by Beth, captured, tied down and left to bleed out after being found by Marcus; betrayed)
    • Richie Kirsch (stabbed 22 times by Samantha Carpenter and throat slut, killed but still was shot 3 times, one shot to head)
    • Quinn Bailey (killed via gunshot to the head by Samantha)
    • Wayne Bailey (stabbed by Samantha various times and eye impaled/stabbed, killed and bled out)
  • Only the other 7 Ghostface killers (12 film, 2 TV) were able to survive serious attacks and injuries/wounds endured in their reveals and finales (either from themselves or attacks on them by survivors), unlike their accomplices, and who while seeming defeated, came back for one last scare, only to be quickly put down by the survivors.
    • Billy Loomis (wounded by Stu inflicting stab, stabbed and knocked out by Sidney with umbrella in chest, shot in chest by Gale, killed by Sidney via headshot)
    • Mickey Altieri (wounded after killing Officer Andrews by dropping from car roof, and then attacking Officer Richards by hijacking detective car and briefly kidnapping Sidney and Hallie in the backseat and getting into a car crash, knocking him out while in the Ghostface costume, kiling Richards in car crash process; hit in face/eyes with necklace by Sidney, disarming him as well as being kicked and punched him in the face and torso, shot in chest 3 times by Nancy after reveal and shooting Gale while betrayed; shot to death after one scare by Sidney and Gale)
    • Roman Bridger
      • Hitn the head with vase by Gale, almost tackled by Tyson, while in costume, knocked down later by Gale downstairs to a basement after trying to restrain her and stab her following being seperated from Dewey after killing Tyson and Jennifer; wounded and briefly knocking him out downstairs before awaking and knocking out Dewey and after supposedly disarming and luring Sidney inside into Milton mansion due to keeping hostage Gale and Dewey,
      • Atfacled by Mark Kincaid who had arrived after he escaped due to being shot down earlier by Sidney upon entry, unaware of the fact he had a bulletproof vest;
      • Ran and stumbled into glass door as Sidney led him astray from her still captured friends after running out of bullets to shoot him after knocking down Mark
      • After reveal in a secret room, was provoked into a physical fight by Sidney in where he was smashed with another vase and punched in the face and smashed with a bottle over his head by Sidney, before taking the lead;
      • Distracted and disoriented afterer power was cut off by Dewey, would shoot her when Sidney grabs his knife, upon Roman arming himself with a gun after knocking out Mark who came in after Sidney, and who would shoot Sidney dead, supposedly.
      • Trying to leave upon hearing Gale and Dewey attempting to enter and threatening him if he hurt her, Roman turns his back and is distracted and who finds Sidney missing upon turning around; he attempts to call Sidney to track her, unaware that Sidney, hiding a grabing an ice pick while he's walking the opposiye way, was onto him and before he could call her and press dial, Sidney dials him first, before emerging from behind the bar and lunging and attacking him from the back, stabbing him on his collarbone or shoulder with the ice pick where his vest didnt cover him, briefly knocking him down and is shocked when Sidney reveals her bulletproof vest upon stating he shot her and then stabbing him on his upper chest with the ice pick, leaving it impaled on him as Gale and Dewey finally make it into the room.
      • As Roman is left down, supposedly dead and Sidney getting up to walk away, he pops back up and screams as Dewey shoots at his chest, not aware of the fact he had a vest, who screams through getting shot, Sidney tells him to shoot for the head, which he does and Roman is finally killed by Dewey via headshot.
    • Jill Roberts
      • Slashed on wrist via decoy by Charlie as Ghostface, who may or may not as Ghostface been the one to attack Gale at Stab-a-thon before, who before stabbing her in the shoulder, was kicked and pushed down by Gale
      • After her reveal, would betray and stab Charlie in the heart, killing him, before stabbing Sidney in the stomach, supposedly killing her after having stabbed her there as Sidney attempted to escape while as Ghostface; later revealed that Sidney, thus only knocking her out and incapacitating her.
      • Jill would then self-inflict her own wounds as a way to pass off as a victim, making her the only Ghostface whose wounded herself in the third act without a partner having done so intentionally. She would do so by:
        • Untying and making the hand of the corpse of her ex boyfriend/victim, Trevor, while on the floor, rip off a chunk off hair of the back of her head as well as use his nails to scratch her face, causing it to bleed and leave a mark.
        • Grabbing the knife she had just stabbed Charlie and Sidney with and who makes it face and aim towards her shoulder, grabbing it with both hands before running towards the wall and pinning the butt of the knife on it as the knife is inserted and stabs/impales her, screaming in pain whilst doing so and still holding the knife, who quickly with one hand, removes it her from her puncture wound, and holding her shoulder with one hand and knife in hand in the other, who in pain, kicks a small table down before wiping knife handle clean with rag and planting it next to Trevor on the floor.
        • Jill then runs head first into a glass picture frame on the wall, which breaks and shatters as she then falls and begins in pain, to stumble and is seen with glass shards and cuts visible on her face, such as her cheeks, nose and lower forehead.
        • Despite being already heavily wounded and with larcerations, Jill gets up from the floor and begins her next and final self inflicted wound by facing a glass table before turning her back and jumping onto it, breaking her fall and the table, and who then rises, now with cuts on her arms as well, and stumbles back to the kitchen with the bodies of Charlie and Trevor, before falling and laying down in a manner identical to Sidney across from her on the floor.
      • After arriving to the hospital and inadvertently revealing herself due to commenting on Gale's wound to Dewey, who leaves her to check on Gale, who made the realization, just before Dewey left, had revealed to Jill that Sidney's in the ICU and had survived; much to Jill's hatred who makes her way to Sidney's room in the somewhat empty hospital, who would try to strangle and kill Sidney by laying on top of her while in her bed, before Sidney then slapped Jill in the face and wedges her thumb into Jill's eye causing it to bleed, before a fight ensues with them as Jill begins hitting Sidney on her stomach wound and would be briefly knocked down before Dewey is heard, distracting Jill and leading her to hide as Dewey arrives and is ambushed by Jill hitting him on the head with a metal pan, knocking him down and out before grabbing his gun and who threatens Sidney, who tells her she wont get away, and is supposedly knocked out once Gale arrives.
      • Gale then arrives out from her room to look for Dewey before being held at gunpoint by Jill and trying to negotiate with her before then being saved by Deputy Judy Hicks who pushes her and Gale away on the otherside of the room behind a hospital bed as Jill shoots and fails to kill them. Jill then threatens to shoot Dewey dead as Judy then rises as Jill tells her to give her the gun she has, which Gale tells her to comply, which she does as Judy then rises. Judy tells her to not do anything stupid before Jill then shoots her dead, supposedly and who tells a panicked Gale to get up.
      • Gale rises as Jill holds her at gunpoint, unaware of Sidney rising up and quietly turning on the defibrillator behind her, which Gale catches on but feigns panic as she has her hands up and asks Jill if she can have one final word, much to Jill's disbelief, asking if it's please, as Gale denies this and says clear, much to Jill's confusion who repeats it before Sidney stands behind Jill and says it loudly, pressing both pads set to 500 Joules into Jill's skull, knocking her down briefly, despite the intensity as Sidney tells her Jill how she forgot the first rule of remakes: "Don't fuck with the original".
      • Dewey awakes and asks what hit him as Gale kneels dowm to tend to him and who tells Sidney and Gale how she was right behind him, as Jill awakens and grabs a glass shard and rises silently towards the Legacy Trio, mainly Sidney, who says they always are before quickly picming up Dewey's gun and shooting Jill on the chest, officially killing her and who Hicks is revealed to be alive via her bulletproof vest, as Sidney then lays down across from her dead cousin, parelling Jill making herself the victim and laying across from Sidney back at Kirbys house in the false ending, making her victimization all for nothing and wouldn't get away, echoing Sidney's statement prior to her and others.
    • Beth (knocked down on the head by a stick by Liv Reynolds; after reveal, donned Ghostface costume shortly after shooting Marcus Elliot, to chase Liv before being hit in the face by a locker swung open by Liv, who removed her mask to reveal a broken bloody nose before Liv punched her before two proceeded to fight as chase ensued at their empty high school at night; Beth manages to get the upper hand briefly and stab Liv in the leg, who pushes her to the glass display of school trophies, breaking it and giving Liv a chance to grab a plaque and hit Beth on the head, knocking her down and escaping as Beth chases Liv up to the rooftop, armed with an axe. Liv pleads for her life, distracting Beth of Marcus arriving, alive, who ambushed her by hitting her over the head with his football helmet, much to Beth's displeasure. Liv angrily grabs the helmet and hits her again, pushing Beth down the skylight and onto the school gymnasium foor below, seemingly killing her but in reality knocking her out. After Liv and Marcus arrive down make sure, they turn around to share a moment, before Kym arrives armed with the gun Beth shot Marcus with and dropped, and tells them about the rule of one last scare. Beth then screams and gets up with her axe, before being killed as she's shot point blank 3 times by Kym, much to Beth's chagrin of them being partners, her last words before dropping dead).
    • Amber Freeman (endured being punched, slapped, and hit by survivors including mostly Tara Carpenter while as Ghostface, as well as by Dewey Riley before killing him; after reveal, would be attacked by Gale and Sidney who would take the lead and who Sidney threw and covered her in hand sanitizer before Gale would then pass the torch to Amber as she buttheaded her and kicked her in the stomach with her heel, pushing Amber towards the stove who pleaded for her life, as Gale told her off before shooting her three times as Amber fell down on the stove she had accidentally turned on, causing her to catch on fire, screaming in pain before supposedly falling dead; after Sidney and Gale went to Sam, Amber approached screaming, disfigured and burned before being shot in the head and killed by Tara).
    • Ethan Landry (as Ghostface was hit in the head with an empty knifeholder block by Sam during the apartment attack as well as leading up to third act, in the Ghostface Shrine, where he would be thrown a camera by Chad and tackled and punched, as well as briefly restrained by Sam and Tara, before Tara kicked him in the head while in costume; after reveal and stabbing Kirby, would be hit in the head with a brick by Sam and after taking the knife from Kirby, be stabbed by Sam various times, although not much. After Tara is shot and forced to fall from balcony, Sam equips her with knife, who after Ethan stabs her, Tara then stabs Ethan in the mouth and twists the knife, seriously injuring him and incapacitating him. In one last scare moment, attempts to charge Sam and Tara before his head and skull is crushed by being pushed Stu's old television that had killed him, by Kirby, effectively killing him).
