Officer B. Westbrook was a recurring character in the third season of the television series Scream. He was portrayed by Big Boi.

History

Officer Westbrook is another law enforcement officer in the Atlanta P.D who would find himself entrusted after his partner Officer Reynolds, is attacked and left in critical condition, after surviving an attack by Ghostface, as he is entrusted to overwatch him and his daughter, Liv, at the height of the Atlanta Murders (2018), who would be watching over him as his security and own police protection while he recovered at the hospital.

Westbrook is first dispatched to Beth's home in the suburbs of Atlanta, following Amir Ayoub's brutal murder, and after being talked to by Reynolds's daughter, asks Marcus Elliot about revealing the attack of Reynolds, which Westbrook informs him wasn't made publicly available information, thus suspecting him, he has him arrested after commanding Marcus to unzip his hoodie, which he draws his gun as Marcus is shown having Reynolds's blood on his shirt, incriminating him.

Trivia

  • B. Westbrook is one of many Black male characters to have fallen victim to Ghostface in the Scream franchise, as well as been killed in a brutal manner (head stab, similar to Anthony Perkins from Scream 4, albeit Westbrook was stabbed in the back while Perkins was through the forehead).
    • Chronologically, he is the eighth Black male character to have been killed, preceded in the film series by Phil Stevens, Tyson Fox, Anthony Perkins; as well as by Deion Elliot, Latavious, Hook Man, and Amir Ayoub in this season, and succeeded only by his perpetrator, Jamal Elliot. In the films, he is succeeded by Brooks.
      • He is also amongst one of many male characters portrayed by famous actors and whose small guest star role is similar to that of the Black actors and musicians in the films, as he is portrayed by Big Boi, who was one part of the American hip hop duo Outkast.
      • As well as his castmates Tyga (who portrayed Jamal) and C.J Wallace (who portrayed Amir, who is the only son of late American rapper, The Notorious B.I.G; similar to Paris Jackson).
  • Westbrook's death as a police officer in charge of protecting a Ghostface attack victim survivor recovering at a hospital, where they would fall victim specifically, would be referenced in Scream (2022) almost 4 years later, within universe (albeit three since the season was released in reality).
    • Due to Deputy Clay's death, who was in charge of overseeing and was the entrusted police protection and the former security for Tara Carpenter, while she was recovering, at the Woodsboro Hospital, and to an extent, Dewey Riley's death as a former officer (Deputy in 1996 to Sheriff in 2011), the latter who was killed, acting as a savior for Tara, following her police protection being murdered.
    • Difference in their deaths is that Westbrook was killed due to being distracted and inside an empty room due to taking drugs from a hospital cart, as well as notably being the only officer within the Atlanta P.D supposedly, in charge of overseeing Reynolds, due to being partners;
      • Whereas Clay was left alone as the only Woodsboro Police officer at the hospital, implied, due to the other deputies being all dispatched after Sheriff Judy Hicks' murder to her home, much to Samantha Carpenter's anger as she asked Deputy Vinson which officer was at the hospital and watching her sister, before she left to go rescue her, alongside Dewey providing assistance, narrowly arriving as Ghostface taunted her on the phone, as they arrived just before Ghostface (Amber Freeman) could stab Tara.
  • Westbrook is the tenth out of twelve law enforcement deaths in the Scream franchise, as well as the fifth Black male law enforcement officer victim.
    • Technically out of thirteen or fourteen, if counting Dewey Riley's death as a former police officer in the fifth film to Wayne Bailey as an NYPD Detective, and Ghostface, in Scream VI.
  • B. Westbrook's surname, in a nod to Scream 3, in being named after a Hollywood celebrity. In this case, after American basketball player, Russell Westbrook.
    • Westbrook played for both the Los Angeles Lakers and recently, the Clippers, in regards to sharing the location of the third film and is a Californian, much like the first film characters.
